Bienvenidos darlings! And welcome to my second blog post. Let’s just start off with a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read and engage in my first blog post and to all those going forward. I really enjoyed doing it and have been looking forward to writing my second and here we are! Wooo!
The fur-guard news feed
So “what’s on the menu maestro?” (by the way, MAJOR kudos points to whoever knows what film that quote is from. I say it all the time. Clue: I’m a millennial so it may give you an idea around the time the film may have been released) ;D. So, on the ‘menu’ is a challenge I’m bringing to fur-guard to bring some extra entertainment to your beautiful faces. Two days ago on Monday 10th March 2025, I announced on our socials that I was going to start a new collection called the ‘Scrap Challenge Collection’. This is where I challenge myself to regularly go through my scrap pieces of fabric and make a dogue outfit from them. Meanwhile, I can create some interesting reels/tiktoks for you guys to hopefully enjoy as you watch the process of me making it. The aim is to keep waste to minimum and an added bonus that you can grab yourself a one-off bespoke outfit for your pooch. We don’t like waste here. I remember my mum would say “waste not want not” when I was a young whipper snapper; and I still live by that affirmation. Far too much gets thrown away to landfill because it’s much easier that rehoming, recycling or repurposing something. Over time as we grow as a business, and hopefully a lovely little fur-guard community (cute), we can introduce more eco-friendly actions. We’re only small potatoes at the moment (but would like to be slightly bigger potatoes in the future) but every little thing any of us do will contribute to a positive impact on the floating rock we all call home.
Going back to talking (or writing) about new collections; I’ve been a very busy bee this week brainstorming. I honestly have SO much I want to do with fur-guard with regards to new products, collections, collaborations, content creation, activities, it’s off the charts! The list is quite extensive. I’m beaming with excitement but I have inadvertently made myself overwhelmed. I don’t know where to begin. I just want to announce everything like a hyperactive child in a frenzied state of delirium but that wouldn’t be the best foot forward really now would it? On the other hand, I think I can perhaps give you a little taster into what my few remaining brain cells produced since I wrote my last blog.
Watch this space 2025! We’re talking….
- Bandanas baby. But not just any old bandanas; crocheted bandanas made by me :)
- New collections! Extending the specific breed range to releasing a Dachshund Collection so I’m gonna need a little brand rep so watch out for my posts! Another one I’m working on is called ‘The Hiking Hound’ Collection. This will consist of a few items that aimed at us hikers and happy campers. I’m thinking practical yet sophisticated.
- Now this idea I haven’t fully set on yet because I’m not quite sure which direction to take it but I was thinking of starting a series of art work called Derpy Dog Doodles. The term ‘derpy’ refers to the style of the drawing, it’s not a representation of your dog’s intellectual state :D. I love to draw but my eldest daughter’s skills are insane. So maybe we both might do a few here and there. I’m just not sure whether to just draw what we draw and then we upload them onto the website. Or, do we offer it as a custom service where you guys DM us with a photo of your doggo (doesn’t just have to be a whippet by the way, it can be any breed we’re not excluding anyone we love all dogs) and we then turn that into a sketch/painting or whatever for you. Let me know what you think. As you can probably tell I’ve still got a lot to work on with this idea so maybe I need to confirm a few details with myself first (getting carried away as usual).
And that’s all the ‘tea’ I’m spilling on that topic for now thank you very much.
What’s the sitch elsewhere
As you may or may not have been aware, the annual Crufts event has recently taken place. Did anyone see the stunning whippet from Venice called Miuccia win ‘Best in Show’ at Crufts? I unfortunately wasn’t able to watch it myself, but I’ve seen the reels and the TikToks; what a beautiful whippet! I’m obviously buzzing that a whippet won it (not biased at all – side-eye). When I’ve been out and about walking Rayne and River and I’ve bumped into one of the other local whippet parents they say “hey, a whippet won Crufts at the weekend!” :D. We’re a proud bunch haha.
Before I Go
On the next blog, I’ll be writing about our recent camping trip. How it went, what went well, what didn’t, what was fun, what wasn’t and all that jazz because you never really know what’s going to happen with the mysteries of the UK weather do ya.
